The closest distance from one point to another is reached faster by a straight line. Meanwhile in our field, Art, the distance is where we make a point into avoiding this shortcut and proposing a new approach. In this dialog with simcha, we both use geometry as a structure and often add new elements or override logic to create a work that will challenge usual compositions. The circle comes from a line that change its course and expanded to volume. We can all relate to a circle, it’s part of our universal nature, still that doesn’t mean it will comply to our expectations. When one will compose a piece by accumulation, distortion, the other will multiply and scale. Since there isn’t a theorem, there is no reason for a right answer. Shapes find their ways for each artist through their language. And the dialog happens when they finally meet in the white cube.

When looking around, notice how everything seem to be in place and balanced. Even in unexpected circumstances, it’s like our eyes find the different elements and agree to find harmony. Funny enough, some patterns exist for long enough that we even existed. Therefore we use them organically and they please our lives naturally. After many years exploring shapes, avoiding squares and expanding lines, it appears very natural to push further into dimensional and moving shapes in my practice. The circle must come from somewhere and the spiral is one option to its origin or one development. Painting -out of square- offer this infinite option of exploring shapes as an alternative to classic painting. In architecture we can use it as a structure, in nature we see it in galaxies, botanic and in mathematics it’s a whole new dimension. Art Doesn’t have a purpose or utility; therefore all shapes only give what you wish to see in them. As long as we aim to create parallel vision of what we see or live, there will be a way to find harmony.

When traveling to the moon, you can dream of the absence of gravity for a short second and then be reminded so fast of how it’s not made for human in any kind of way. The paradox of space exploration, dreaming of elsewhere when it cannot fit any of our lives, ever. Every attempt we did to make it accessible out frame our own living. By chasing the impossible, we corner our own limits. A good dream keep a man working for life. Every time you will look up, you look at an eternal human fantasy of conquest. Painting is working in a bubble where you chase a vision, and sometimes reach to some findings that will land you to the moon for 2 or 3 days until you realize that it was only an orb and your journey is beginning again.

Meanwhile, in the studio, A new series emerge. After having been chasing lights in their different shape for my solo Light ripples, new directions find their way.
It takes time to create and find the right language to share a new story, not only to write but mostly to tell. Art is made to shared and create a dialogue, questions and sometimes answers, not all meant to happen at the same time.
so if you happen to have questions or answers, book a studio visit, propose a collaboration or commission a painting, you can contact me at moritz.jessica@gmail.com
